Kalitta Air 747 from Anchorage veers off Ningbo runway

A Kalitta Air Boeing 747 freighter operating from Anchorage to Ningbo, China has been involved in a runway excursion earlier today, after veering off the runway at Ningbo Lishe International Airport (NGB) after landing.

Kalitta Air Boeing 747-481F, registered N401KZ, was operating a scheduled freight run as flight K4968 from Anchorage-Ted Stevens International Airport (ANC) to Ningbo Lishe International Airport (NGB) today, 7 August.

Video footage taken after the incident shows the freighter had veered off the right hand side of RWY 31 during the landing roll at Ningbo.

The cause of the loss of control resulting in the subsequent runway excursion is not known. There have been no injuries reported from the landing incident.

A terminal forecast valid at the time of the flight’s arrival at 0722Z shows that there had been rain and thunderstorms forecast during the arrival period with some lower cloud. It is unclear whether the meteorological conditions were a factor in the resultant runway excursion.
