South African Airways CEO Kalawe Resigns After Conduct Hearing

Monwabisi Kalawe, the suspended chief executive officer of South African Airways, has resigned with immediate effect from the unprofitable state-owned carrier after facing a disciplinary hearing into alleged misconduct.
Kalawe, who was suspended pending a disciplinary hearing last year and denies wrongdoing, will receive three-months’ salary in lieu of notice plus an additional three months’ pay for agreeing to resign, the Johannesburg-based airline said in a statement on Friday. Kalawe’s lawyer, Maurice Crespi, didn’t return a call seeking comment.
