Deep sea search for MH370 shifts to area where British pilot believes airliner made controlled ditching

Even with a "controlled" ditching, the aircraft will break up and debris will float away. There's only one credible explanation why the debris hasn't shown up - the aircraft did NOT ditch in the ocean.

Then where's the rest of it? Not even one of the 300+ seat cushions, which are designed to float forever, has turned up.

The rest of it is scattered in bits and pieces across a huge area, carried by ocean currents in diverging directions across the 10s of thousands of meters of depth before coming to rest in all kinds of places. The discovery of the flaperon on Reunion is a pretty vivid illustration of how hopeless this search is.
