All of these airlines could've done this earlyer and Japan Airlines has more solutions to this flight such as carrying more passangers by purchasing an A380, or B747-8. They are both more fuel efficent, they carry more passengers(the airline(s) can make more of a profit) and the fuel cost is less. And when the fuel cost less, the tickets cost less, then more people will buy tickets from Japan Airlines for this flight from JFK-Tokyo.
