Want to secure a spot on the first commercial flights of Boeing’s new 787 Dreamliner? All you have to do is outbid everyone else in this eBay charity auction. Boeing is scheduled to deliver the first 787 to launch customer All Nippon Airways on Monday. The first commercial flight is scheduled to be a charter run from Tokyo Narita airport to Hong Kong on Oct. 26, returning to Narita the following day. This is just one of those "look at me" situations. It's nice to hear that the money will go to a good cause though.

As always, momentous events like this are retained for the super-rich. There may be diligent, hard-working technicians at Boeing that work on these planes and know every square inch of them, that never get opportunities like this.

This is an 1,800 mile flight, so it's not even a really comprehensive experience of traveling on the 787 in ANA's business class. It'd be a different story if it was the Seattle -> Tokyo leg.
