United sees potential fit for Boeing 777-300ER, not yet 777X

United Airlines has no immediate interest in purchasing 777X aircraft from Boeing Co. but views the plane's predecessor, the 777-300ER, as a potentially good fit for its network, the carrier's Chief Financial Officer, John Rainey, told Reuters in an interview Monday. (www.stltoday.com) More...

Tis good to see an airline exec tell Boeing they need a replacement for the 757, that there is a sweet spot in their system for it.

Really would be cool to see them bring the 75 back. Maybe make a few adjustments to it. I know it won't happen, but just a thought.

I guess it would be kinda like Airbus and the 380neo; it would depend on who laid some money down and put some skin in the game. After 10 years out of production, you would be basically talking a clean sheet aircraft. With most of the stuff still in place for the build, it might be less than a clean sheet but Boeing would have to treat it like one. There was a reason that orders dwindled in the 4-5 years before production halted on it.
