First A320neo delivery opens new era in commercial aviation

Submitted

The Lufthansa Group, Airbus’ largest airline customer and operator, marks a major step in aviation history today by taking delivery of the first A320neo, the world’s best-selling and most fuel efficient single aisle aircraft. Equipped with all new technology Pratt & Whitney PurePower® Geared Turbofan™ engines, the A320neo sets a new, even higher standard in aircraft efficiency, reducing emissions and noise as well as burning 15% less fuel than current generation aircraft from day one and 20%… (www.wsj.com) More...

World's best selling single aisle aircraft is actually the 737.

Non paywall version (at the moment)
http://www.wsj.com/articles/airbus-delivers-a320neo-to-lufthansa-1453306044
Within that article reads "Toulouse-based Airbus has already booked more than 4,400 orders for the new plane, making it its fastest selling aircraft. The A320 family of planes being replaced first entered service in 1988."

The WSJ article doesn't appear to call it "the world's best-selling..." Where did that come from? Perhaps it is from an Airbus press release?

What I'm talking about is the line below the title of this squawk, which reads: "by taking delivery of the first A320neo, the world’s best-selling and most fuel efficient single aisle aircraft."

I couldn't read the paywall version. The description is not from the article, and I was wondering from whence it came. Cannot speak to the fuel efficiency claim. It seems to me that if they are crowing about the first delivery that does not translate to 'best selling' and a bit hyperobolic.

Same here, I also lack a WSJ subscription. Maybe the submitter of the article came up with those claims.

The Boeing 737 is the Worlds best selling aircraft. It was first developed in 1964 and is still on the up roar. It doesn't mean that its not the fastest or most planes ordered but (this is my opinion---->) if you put the Airbus A320 up against the Boeing 737 the Boeing 737 wins by a long shot. Also in every 5 seconds there are 2 737s that take off and land someplace in the world.

In the reports I've seen, when you put a 737 up against an A320 both sustain damage and come up the loser.

There always going back and forth. News about Airbus A320 says its the best aircraft out there and they knock the Boeing 737 and when its about the Boeing 737 they knock the Airbus A320 lol.

Except for passengers, where the wider seats in the A320 make a difference in comfort. If I have a choice I choose the bus.
