The black teardrop that appears to be on the wing is actually on the center of the fuselage behind the pilot and held the antenna for the direction finding system. It was pilot controlled and interpreted.
This NA T-6 is showing its shared "DNA" with the CAC Wirraway in this great photo!!!

Would enjoy seeing a photo of the two aircraft flying together.
