Experimental  (V132R) - X-38 V-131R Crew Return Vehicle hanging from the wing of the Boeing NB-52B Stratofortress before the seventh drop test of the program on June 29, 2001. The X-38 explored the flight characteristics of the lifting body shape before deploying a giant parafoil for a soft lading. The design was based on the Martin-Marietta X-24A.
