Joe Baugher's published information regarding this F/A-18D Hornet, USN BuNo. 164009, was succinct and brief...

"164009 McDonnell Douglas F/A-18D-29-MC Hornet (Lot 12)".

Another website offers additional noteworthy information about BuNo. 164009, which is the a/c in Gary's photo...

"164009, D, VMFA(AW)-121, first night attack “D” delivered May 11, 1990."

VMFA(AW)-121, the first assignment of this F/A-18D Hornet, was Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (All Weather) 121, also known as the "Green Knights".

Somewhat interesting is that F/A-18 BuNo's 164008 and 164010, immediately preceding and following, were F/A-18C single-seat Hornets!

Evidently, "Lot 12" F/A-18 Hornet production was "mixed" with both single-seat C and and two-seat D variants.
