McDonnell Douglas FA-18 Hornet — - Heard it up there somewhere and had to search hard to find this one way up in all that blue sky .... and then, when I managed to see it, get it in the viewfinder and get it in focus, I almost dropped my camera. This wasnt just an F-18; this was a EA-18G Growler, and it was loaded with an awesome array of hardware: fuel tanks, missiles, and electronic warfare pods. Yeah, I knew I was shooting way, WAY beyond the reach of my TAMRON 70-300, but there was no harm in trying, so I spun one dial with my thumb and another with my forefinger and took a fast set of shots. And this is one of them. This Growler is way up there and travelling fast, but the pic is a keeper.

I was hiking in the Virginia Range Mountains so I did not actually see it depart from Reno, but it must have come from there because it came from out of the north and it was still climbing. Some commercial departures had come into view from that same direction earlier which is why I had some idea where to try looking for it when I first heard it. So I'll list it as KRNO in my folder.

Fantastic shot Gary ! I heard it also but couldn't spot it as well . Luckily it passed me on a downwind leg low and slow parallel to S.Mccarren .i had only binoculars no camera. Thanks for the snap! Indeed it was a twin seat Growler loaded for bear!, can you post the other snaps perhaps ? You rate 5 on this very difficult shoot !
