Embraer ERJ-145 (N247JX)

I had to sit down and lean backward to be certain I would not be struck by the wing as it went past. It turned out that even if I had been sitting upright the wing would have missed me, but not by much.

I am used to being close to moving aircraft in order to get good closeup photos, but THIS was the closest I've ever been. It was awesome!

Hi, Greg. For sure it was "cool" out there yesterday -- well, in the early morning hours, anyway. I was up at 4:15 AM and got to RNO at 5:25; the temp was 29 F. (When I left at 3:15 PM, it was considerably warmer.) We had two snowstorms in the preceding three days that dumped several feet of snow in the Sierra Nevada and even some snow all the way down to the valley floor so there was no way I was going to pass up the opportunity for inclement weather pics. Super thick fog shortly after I first arrived and even when the sun came up a blanket of fog remained for a couple of hours.
Hey, keep an eye peeled for another pic from me. Right after I snapped this JSX, I just spun around and remained on my keester right in this same spot as a C-130 came right at me to land on 16L. Of course, there is a taxiway (Charlie) between the runway and me so it didn't come as close, but it still was awesome to have it coming toward me as I was sitting next to Charlie. I had escorted another photographer out there with me but he had to leave a few minutes before this JSX and the Herc came along so he missed a premier opportunity. Best wishes to you, Greg.
