de Havilland Dash 8-400 (ZS-YBT)
A Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 wearing the colours of SA Express, turning onto the taxiway to line up on Runway 26 for a direct departure path for the 1 hour hop from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town. The photo was taken on 26 Oct 2017, quite some time before SAX was grounded in May 2018 for "irregularities". SA Express is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Government-owned National Flag Carrier, South African Airways. Unfortunately I cannot identify the aircraft in the background, which is parked near the old Airforce Museum Hanger.
Comments
The crew appear to be cycling the wipers, although the ramp looks dry. Appears to be an Aero Commander AC680 Grand Commander in the distant background to the right...
Hi Chris, thanks for the info re the aircraft in the background. About the wipers, maybe the crew pulled the washer button and were cleaning the windshields? (only kidding) :)
Further on this airline which was grounded in May 2018, according to a statement from the airline, it has already received Certificates of Airworthiness for most of their 11 aircraft from SACAA and they are expecting the green light for the rest of the fleet soon. SA Express has announced that they will be resuming their operations on 23 August 2018.
Thanks for the background on SAX Viv and Regards from SYD!
You're most welcome, Chris !!
