How do I know?
look carefully at the picture, what do you see?
Look at the shape of the wings of the 2 aircraft! They are not identical in width or wing span. If there should be a slight difference then the one that is closer to the observer should appear slightly larger. What do you see?
Why do people think it is interesting to make up pictures like this?

It is not fake, just good timing.

I think the pic is real as the photographer was panning with the closest aircraft going to the left. The other aircraft would be blurred and slightly stretched across the camera sensors or film. You can achieve the same effect shooting moving objects with a slow shutter speed and wide lens aperature.
