5 JFK Airport baggage handlers stole over $27k from outbound mail, police say

Five JFK Airport baggage handlers were arrested for stealing more than $27,000 from mail headed overseas, authorities said Friday.

Officials told CBS that the baggage handlers allegedly stole checks and money orders and deposited them in their personal bank accounts.

The report said they were also accused of stealing credit cards, which they used to purchase electronics, including iPads, from airport kiosks.

The suspects were identified as 26-year-old Anthony Austin; Michael Williams, 29; Alexander Fluellen, 29; Samuel Wright, 31; and Ariel Weaver, 20, all of New York City.

They face larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, petit larceny and forgery charges.
