Quick-thinking engineer stops smoke in plane cabin

A quick-thinking engineer flying home from Ethiopia averted possible disaster when he saw smoke billowing out of a bag in the cabin. Thanks to 53-year-old Samir Buffkins, the Air Ethiopia flight was able to reach Cape Town on Tuesday without incident. (www.news24.com) More...

Another issue with Lithium ion batteries. Need to observe safety features when transporting these batteries as they clearly can be a liability.

Airport security does not mind carrying a Smartphone... so its easy to carry an Igniter in the form of Lithium Ion Battery. Very Serious..

This must have been on ET829, the only Ethiopian Airlines (not "Air Ethiopia") service from ADD to CPT. It's a B738.
