Lufthansa Adds First 787-9 Dreamliner for U.S. Routes

Submitted
Lufthansa has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, marking a major step in the airline’s long-haul fleet renewal strategy. The German carrier plans to introduce 10 of the aircraft at its Frankfurt hub in 2025, gradually replacing older Airbus widebodies such as the A340-600. (airguide.info) More...

What? Lufthansa took delivery of its first 787 in 2022. It has been seasonally flying it from FRA-DTW since early 2023.

787 has up to 100 or so fewer seats. They're going to need to work these aircraft much harder than the Airbus or are they hoping the 777-x will finally arrive sometime this decade?

Yes, but Lufthansa never flew them. Five taken over from a Hainan Airlines order, retaining their original interior configuration, and they were transferred to Austrian airlines in 2023.
