Flight Aware shows the 180 occurred just before the lengthy over water portion. I wonder what happened? (flightaware.com) More...

Well BOTH planes landed at DFW today and right now they are parked one behind the other. Quite a sight!

Thanks to those who posted responses to my question.

Just a Short note RE Qantas 767's Without the Pilots and Ground Engineers that nurtured them for so long they would have no value in 2014!

The 767-200 being replaced by newer Jetstar A330's.

Qantas has no 767-200s

Yes you are correct that was last year, now the 300's are going as well, too old. replaced by A330's

I drove up specifically to see QF and EK's 388s last weekend. Initially I was shocked that my goal airplane had turned back, but it turned out to be a great thing, because the delayed flight, 7D, arrived around 1500 local the next day, which was much better light than the standard 1200 arrival time.

A380's had a lot of cancellations/turnbacks early in service due to fuel pump problems. I thought they were mostly past that by now. That plane has 11 fuel tanks in it - could cause a major fuel imbalance if pumps in a certain tank won't work on a long flight.

I think they might have run out of coffee :-D

Comments below are inaccurate in as much as this flight is now operated with an A388. This was effective Sept 29th.
There are more limited options for diversions with this aircraft doe to it's size and weight. Also returning to a Qantas base make sense to resolve a problem.
I have no knowledge of Qantas maintenance practices but judging them on the aircraft parked in VCV does not make sense either. They are there with many many others.

I don't know one way or another, but if you click on the link it shows the turn-around and it clearly says Airbus A380-800.

It was changed to the A380 on Sept 29. Since then not a single Qantas 747 has landed at DFW. I know, I live in DFW.
andyc852
The FlightAware data shows it as a A388 and if you search by tail number it is VH-OQK and it and it's sister ship VH-OQL have been operating the service for the last week or so.
You are correct in that I do not work for Qantas.
There was plenty of press coverage concerning the start of the service and QF beating Emirates as the first A388 service in to KDFW. Looks like they dropped the A388 Sydney to HKG to gain the capacity.
Understand the need to not comment on maintenance issues in a public forum.

colin370 obviously you have no knowledge about this. QF 7 AND QF 8 are operated by a380's, and they do not stop in Brisbane. Tell me I'm wrong but I live in Dallas and see the QF flights come in 6 days a week now, and they're A380's.

His confusion may have something to do with the international date line and time zones! LOL.
QF is busy playing catch up. QF7D is in DFW now.

The A380 is now on the Dallas route and its there to stay. One less 747 into Brisbane where I live. This was accelerated by Qantas poor effort to make a profit. They have rationalised the fleet. The 747's have around another year.

Colin , you are a bit behind there lol.

Brad. Are you aware of what Qantas plans as replacements for their 744s?. Looks like they have 2 more A388 on order but I cannot find any info on when they will take them. Looks like the only other order they have for new aircraft is a 738.
Any information would be helpful

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Airbus_A380_orders_and_deliveries

It appears Qantas will get 20 A380 eventually, not sure of the 4 options. They are getting 787's , in fact 3 have been delivered and are used by Jetstar, part of Qantas. The cheaper part.

http://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/qantas-makes-more-cuts-to-spending/story-e6frfq80-1226346506848

They have delayed 2 x A380 as per article above and get more from 2018 onwards. They have been using the newer Jetstar A330 to replace the aging 767-200, hence they are in the desert as they should be. Qantas use their planes heavily but look after them.
http://www.ausbt.com.au/qantas-culls-fleet-boeing-767s-747-jumbos-to-go-airbus-380s-boeing-787s-deferred

Right out of left field though is there relationship with Emirates , which may see some plane leasing if they have too. Jetstar will have 11 787 by 2016.
Our industry he is too cheap and has too many flights, its will cut back .

Not quite sure who your comments are aimed at as there are two posts claiming inaccuracy. One of them is from me.
My comments are based on facts and data that can be verified quite easily, and that does not take any technical competence other that the ability to operate a computer.
If an FAA certificate (or presumably one from other countries) is one of your "requirements" for posting to this site you can continue to look forward to my posts as I match your posted qualifications. FAA Private Cert and Instrument Rating.

And I say again Still the worlds Safest AIRLINE Go QANTAS
andytyler

just because they never had a fatal accident (post world war II) doesn't mean they're the "safest" airline. They are a relatively small airline in terms of daily aircraft movements so not having any plane crashes should be the norm and not some extraordinary achievement. Pretty much any western airline is extremely safe.

Ever since QUANTAS was sold by the Aussie Government, it has been operated much like any other American Air Carrier and has ever since, been plagued with problems and poor morale! I dare to say it is no longer "The Safest Airline in the World"!!

QANTAS NOT QUANTAS And it still holds record as world safest AIRLINE it still has not kill PAX in crash and I hope it never will . It has Aust trained Capt & FO so keep up this great service.

Conexión Lufthansa LH 1147 con LH 400 Tiempo promedio para conexión.
? Hay tiempo suficiente ¿ Gracias
wopri
Francisco, this is not the right place to ask your question as it is the discussion of an incident where an Australian A380 had to turn back after 4 hours of flight.

But to answer your question, yes, it should be ok. LH1447 is scheduled to arrive at 8:40 in Frankfurt and very rarely arrives later than 9:10. LH400 is scheduled to depart at 10:35, that should give you enough time to catch you connection.

Qantas launched 380 service this past Monday. I watched the plane fly over a few miles from landing at DFW. Here's a report on it: http://aviationblog.dallasnews.com/2014/09/qantas-airways-parks-its-airbus-a380-at-dallasfort-worth-international-airport.html/

no! wrong A380..
andyc852
If before Sept 29 you are correct. A388 service is 6 days a week not 7 so 7th day may still be B744. I do not know that
shenghaohan
Shenghao Han 2
They canceld the 7th day, only 6 flights per week I think.
bbsb
Brad Boal 1
6 days only, that's the deal. They increase overall seats by around 400 though and sadly Brisbane is no more.. 747-400 really only has another 5 years. Qantas they retire by 2017.

Kyle Qantas are yet to lose anyone.. Since 1922 second oldest carrier.. Envy of a lot of airlines. They do use there planes but domestically the age is around 6 years now. The 767 are going. & 747's. They have another source for newer aircraft now.

Kyle?
What drugs are you on?
QANTAS has aircraft parked in the desert as the fleet undergoes renewal.
American carriers would envy not only the safety record but the condition of the aircraft in the QANTAS FLEET.

Aware the 767's have been (already) resold to Westjet?

Every carrier has aircraft parked in the desert!
Your statements in your comment are lunacy obviously a product of a very feeble mind.

Since you are not listening to random internet commenters that live in DFW and see the A380 6x a week since Sept 29, without a single Qantas B747, Maybe the Qantas website and factsheet will help you get your facts straight. NO MORE 747 to DFW for Qantas!

And from an Aussie news source.

"Qantas today begins flying its flagship Airbus A380 from Sydney to Dallas in place of the Boeing 747 that’s shuttled between the two cities since May 2011."

In place, means no more of the B747 to DFW.
