TAP Air Portugal replaced almost all planes in its long-haul fleet in just one year

TAP Airport Portugal is now operating one of the most modern long-haul fleets in the world. The carrier has renewed its entire long-haul fleet in just one year. The Airbus A340-300s and almost all A330-200s in the airline's fleet were replaced by the Airbus's new-generation widebody jets A330-900s and single-aisle long-range A321LRs, while the remaining A330-200s were given a new, more modern cabin interior. The A330-200s of the Portuguese flag carrier now features more comfortable… (airlinerwatch.com) More...

I just flew ORD to LIS in Oct in business class. The lie flat seats where a little narrow but comfortable. The food and service was some of the best I have had in business class and the entertainment system had noise cancelling head phones. The head phones were great when the child a few rows back got fussy.

To TAP Air,

Congratulations on this wonderful achievement. You now have an efficient fleet of aircraft and the average age of your fleet has decreased significantly. A job well done!

According to wiki - the long haul fleet is approx 24 planes.. so replacing almost all of them.. 18 (minus 330 they kept). Is a job well done; although not a monumental task by any sorts.. if an airline with 80 long hauls pulled this off.. that’d be impressive and costly lol

Probably made easier by type rating commonality and also maintenece systems. No more fuel bills for A340s substantially reduce operating costs. I flew on a TAP A340 last New Years Eve MIA-LIS. Only reason I chose it was to check the box before the A340 was no more. Still need to score an A350 and B787 to my list!

The A350 is a great choice. The -900 performs extremely well in the long haul but not sure about the -1000.

For TAP routes, they should go with the Dreamliner. More efficient, and they don't need and excessive amount of seats.

The Dreamliner cabin is too narrow for nine seats across, making for a very uncomfortable transatlantic fight. I avoid them as much as possible.

No LR narrow bodies for me, period. There are always other options.

I agree with my whole wide body :) Gimme more space.

This is great. Now how about working on on time arrivals and departures out of Boston or Lisbon.

Maybe with more reliable equipment that might happen.
