airline timelines that required hundreds of these as replacement aircraft have shifted back many months, and what surely is a moneymaker at previous passenger volumes is not appropriate for todays numbers.Or for numbers over the next five years. Boeing has another dilemma: make 'em and park-em, or some other plan B

On the other hand, the present reduced demand conditions pretty much eliminate any time pressure on the flight test and certification program. Customers with early delivery slots might be relieved if their airplanes are delayed. Boeing may now have more time to fix whatever caused the pressure-test cargo door blowout, and to fully vet the folding-wingtip mechanism. In any case Boeing’s not gonna “make ‘em and park ‘em”, they would only build to fill orders, maybe just at a lower rate than planned.

I believe this gives Boeing an opportunity to fix the house, then as travel and demand increases they will be in a much better position than they've been the past few years to manufacturer and sell better aircraft. Make the sacrifices now for long term sustainability.
