United Cuts Ties With ExpressJet

Submitted

United has ended their contract with regional airline ExpressJet in favor of the rival regional airline Commutair, saying that all routes served by ExpressJet will be consolidated into routes served by Commutair... Pilots flying for ExpressJet have been told that they will no longer have jobs by October 1st, and that the fate of the airline looks like it will out of business by the end of 2020 (mobile-reuters-com.cdn.ampproject.org) More...

Worse FA's on the planet - ridiculing passengers, angry and offensive more often then not out of IAH.
I've never been treated worse then onboard Express Jet aircraft, hopefully the friends that I started ground school with are long gone ...

Was same for dispatchers.. I left the airlines 20 yrs ago, just too unstable and senority restarts really suck.. I feel bad for these employees.. time for career change.. corporate aviation worked for me..

I don't want to.... But may have to... To use a Star Trek Quote from Captain Kirk.... "All Good Things Must Come To An End!"

I didn't know Capt Kirk ever said that :)

Ouch.... I goofed.. It was Picard who stated that in the episode "All Good Things..." which was a 2 part Final Episode to "The Next Generation"... thanks for correcting me.

Knowing how hard the majors and minors have fought to lower pilot standards, this could be a bad sign. I personally don't like flying the minor (regional) carriers. They fought too hard to lower the standards for pilots and first officers. I'd rather have an experienced pilot that actually has more time IN the plane, rather than more time in a simulator.

I agree with you.... Working maintenance in the Regionals for quite some time I have seen a lot of stupid stuff... I remember once because the Ground Crew drove off with the Ground Power Connected... Shorted out the APU and Ground Power... had to DEFER Both the APU and Ground Power.... The Captain asked how to start the engines.... UGH.. (on a CRJ) With batteries on, Select B Ignition (that is battery driven) and Air Start one of the engines then cross bleed the 2nd... I mean really... All of that is in the reference books on the Flight Deck.... I hated that Deferral... Flew 3 flight legs before we could get the plane swapped into the hangar, but it is a legal Deferral for 10 days. Surprisingly the Hangar Manager asked to bring the plane in early due to that MEL. Obviously the crew was more than happy to take one coming fresh out of the hangar to get rid of that one.

And my story is of a plane with a leak in the 'restroom closet' that was coming down the aisle. They just kept piling up towels and paper to soak up the water. They were due to fly a couple more laps before maintenance would be able to fix it.

AND a plane that someone had puked in two laps prior, and 'housekeeping' wasn't allowed to clean it up, so the next flight two more passengers puked beacsue of the smell! Cleaning the puke up was not a priority? The sawdust stuff they got on the flight back to my departure airport smelled worse than the puke!

Oh, and flying in an RJ with a right door seal leak. It hissed and squeaked the whole flight, and the flight attendant said they were limited to fly higher than a certain altitude because of it. Sure I feel safe flying regional jets. Yep, you betcha...

UGH... I hate those kind... I remember we had one similar to that... We grounded that sucker in the Hub to get it fixed... Door squeals are bad.. I hate those, and they are a real pain to fix... I am afraid to ask, what carrier that was on... Almost sounds like Mesa!

I worked for Pinnacle (Now Endeavor) an they had great mechanics and crew... I would say the premium of the regional airlines... Seemed to have better qualified and much better training than other companies... One thing a lot of Regionals do not understand is that you can pay for better Training, or pay for more parts and downtime.... Pinnacle chose training, and I have more training certificates on that plane than you would ever believe.

Not good for Express Jet... Hate to see that... Now even more jobs will most likely be lost in our industry.

No surprise there. When AAL was using them I was delayed/cancelled on almost every week for 3 months straight. In fact once, at DFW, we were on the runway ready to leave when we left an taxied back to the terminal. Turned out there was fog at MHK and the copilot was rated for it. AA tried to say it was “weather” related but that was a crock.

Wasn’t. They really need an edit function here.

I had that happen on a Compass jet to DTW some years ago. First pilot left the plane, new pilot came on and apologized for the delay. The first pilot wasn't rated for fog. Looked at the guy next to me and he said, was that supposed to make us more comfortable?
Landing at DTW in some serious fog. Could not see the runway lights until we touched down.

I remember being in a Jumpseat on a CAT III Approach and not seeing the runway until we were exiting the runway... Weird Feeling to say the least...

Mixed feelings about this business move. ExpressJet has not had the best track record over the years. Maybe Commutair's performance has been somewhat better. These regional carriers fly the wings off these planes and maintenance and onetime performance suffers. Perhaps, with a solid contract between UA and Commutair, the regional carrier will invest in "less old" aircraft and do more to keep mechanical issues to a minimum?

Anyone up for deregulation of airfares? At least a plane 70% full might make a profit. Anything above that might be profit.
nemosteve1080i
oops - autocorrect changed re-regulation to deregulation.
watkinssusan
DEREGULATION WAS A FEW DECADES BACK..SINCE THAT TIME MANY CARRIERS HAVE GONE UNDER,MERGERS HAVE HAPPENED, AND A TRUE MESSSY TANGLE OF AIRFARES FROM A YCEX24 WHEN THE MOON IS FULL ONLY,TO A STRAIGHT Y FARE, AND YOU MIGHT JUST BE SITTING NEXT TO THAT PERSON..YEARS AGO THE "REGIONALS'WERE NON EXISTENT,THEN THEY CAME AROUND AND THE LARGER CARRIERS USED THEM AS AN "ARM" AND MARKETING TOOL FOR SMALLER AIPORTS SO THEY DIDNT HAVE TO USE THE BIG JETS..IT IS TRULY A SAD STATE OF AFFFAIRS THAT THIS VIRUS HAS CAUSE SO MUCH PAIN AND STRESS TO ALL OF US,AND THAT AIRLINES ARE REALLY FEELING THE RESULTS OF PEOPLES FEAR..I HAVE FLOWN ON EXPRESSJET AND IT WAS OK..NOT GREAT..BUT REGIONALS ARE NOT KNOWN FOR SERVICE..I WISH THE EMPLOYEES WELL..WHO KNOWS WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE NEX 6 TO 8 MONTHS..

Cute. Military orders and other communications are all caps. Go tell the Pentagon to quit shouting. It's easier reading.

Deregulation needs to be revoked.
Airlines are like any other business, they should be able to breakeven and possibly show a profit.
Restore the 4 fares F/Fn/Y/Yn.
Restore free baggage so passengers don't need to emulate the Beverly Hillbillies and bring all their worldly
possessions as carryon luggage.
Restore meals of some fashion in all seating classes of the plane. I miss the Iranian caviar on LH long haul flights.

Yep, I might sound cranky. But after 50 years of commercial flying and millions of miles, I really miss the old days
when flying was a privilege, a perk, and since AMTRAK rail service sucks in this country (with the exception
of the Acela on the Northeast corridor.
