Not found on Orbitz: A $3.27M HNL roundtrip
The U.S. Air Force tells the Hawaii Reporter newspaper it costs $181,757/hour to operate the Air Force Boeing 747-400 carrying the President of the U.S. (aka, Air Force One). A DC-Honolulu roundtrip costs taxpayers $3.27 million. Given Obama's "pay their fair share" rhetoric of late, I wonder what the same roundtrip would cost using an Air Force-configured Boeing 757 or 737. Any aircraft carrying the POTUS, after all, remains identified as Air Force One. Would this not be a great… (www.theblaze.com) More...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
President Obama is in Hawaii again with his whole family. Go ahead, you GOP Obama bashers and critisize him for spending the Holidays costing the US Government, was it half-a-million-dollares per hour, or thereabouts.
Now Chalet, have you drank the Kool Aid too?lol. I'm a thinkin' it wasn't that far back that you were on the other side of the fence. See my comment above. There ain't a President we've had that hasn't came from somewhere, whether California or Plains GA and has returned there on vacations and Holidays. The entourage comes with the office, not the man.
No Wayne, I didn't mean you, it was intended for other bloggers who demonized the absolutely necessary entourage that accompanies AF 1 wherever Potus goes.
I agree. At the risk of sounding political, regardless of my own views, I have never seen a POTUS that has caused such polarity and division among people. It seems the mere mention of his name in ANY forum, regardless of topic, will be turned into a political discussion. While I am not crazy about him either, this is not the time nor place. In this instance you have a combination of inept reporting and then those not liking him using that inept reporting as an an excuse to trash him.
Well, there are many opinions here, some politically oriented and some aviation oriented. While any President would like all this attention lavished on him, a big part of it is the Secret Service and what is mandated to them to protect him, by the Congress. It is not the man but the office. Some Presidents have been more sensitive to these costs than others and have tried to mitigate them where they could; others have just took it as a perk or requirement and went on not giving it a 2nd thought. Not sure which one but USAF has got a requirement list to Boeing for a new AF1 and backup. Personally, no more time than these 2 have on them and how they are maintained, I'd rather see a little higher operating cost than spend the $ for 2 new 747's, kinda like the Marine one deal last year, but it will take the MSM to bring this out and POTUS to get involved.
"Thus, the total for the nine-hour trip from Washington to Hawaii and then back again will come in at $3,271,611." Putting all the $ and politics aside, how in the Sam Hill do you get from DC to Hawaii and back to DC in 9 hrs. That 747 ain't the Concord
