Two Paris bound aircraft diverted due to security threats

Submitted

Air France said two flights bound from the United States to Paris were diverted Tuesday night after threats were received. One of the flights had taken off from Dulles International Airport in Virginia, and the other had taken off from Los Angeles. Both airplanes landed safely, the airline said: the Dulles flight in Halifax, Nova Scotia; and the Los Angeles flight, in Salt Lake City. According to later news, the planes were inspected upon arrival, refueled and are bound for Paris. (www.washingtonpost.com) More...

The timing would be good to arrive late when there were no more international departures for the passengers could be put in the US departures area without having to clear customs and immigration. With luck they could enjoy some of the best seafood chowder and of course Tim Horton's coffee while they waited.

The CBC now reports all passengers were cleared and accommodated in Halifax with the help of the Air Canada staff and that the 777 had been moved to a gate. All the luggage had been cleared and an Air France flight will pick them up today.

YHZ is on of the finest small airports and were obviously able to mobilize the security resources on short notice to accommodate this flight. As we saw after 9/11 the passengers and crew will find they were treated to Maritime hospitality that in part compensated for their inconvenience.
