Submitted

As many of the world’s airlines begin to reap the financial, and environmental rewards of introducing lighter, more fuel-efficient aircraft made up of carbon-fibre composites, such as the Airbus A350 XWB — a relatively low oil price and continuing strong demand from international passengers is helping drive the growth of ultra-long-haul flying. Airbus, the European manufacturer of the existing A350-900ULR, a variant of flagship A350 XWB that already caters to the ultra-long-haul market, is in… (aviationanalyst.co.uk) More...

The 747 isn't going anywhere, Cargo and Passenger 47's are keeping it alive, unlike the 380.

No the 747 will be around for a while. The A380 on the other hand is being phased out like mad. I even read a article two days ago that says Emirates Airlines is looking for phase all of there A380s out of there fleet by 2030.

I'm afraid I have to agree with Chris..yes the 747 will be around a good while in freighter form, but like he said, this will hasten it's end as a passenger craft...the A380, well that already had a fork stuck in it from the likes of the A350, 787 and the triple 7.

those 747 and A380 have been on a diminishing track for years; what this ULR does is bring up the possibility of airline imprisonmment of up to 20 hours or more, and whatever the point of that turns out to be, in effect making much of the world flyover country.

Actually it's already happening.. remember Singapore Airlines re-introduced the SIN-EWR non stop on an A350-900ULR. If other airlines wish to run long routes like that, they best follow in Singapore's footsteps and make it comfortable.
