This story is counter to my experience. You can fly from LAX to PVG via TPE for less than $700. I took a student to the airport last Saturday to fly home. On arrival in Pudong life is not a bowl of cherries. You will be in quarantine for 14 days. This means (for healthy people) that you stay in a designated hotel. A health care worker will visit at least daily to measure your temperature and check for other symptoms. Eva, Ana, and China Air have flights this weekend if anyone needs to be in Shanghai, and has two weeks to clear health inspection.

Even scheduled flights by regular airlines are getting very expensive. I know of two guys that want to get back to Germany from Australia. Flights are now at 7000€ and climbing.

I just looked on Webjet - plenty of flights listed from Sydney to Frankfurt for AUD2000 or even less.

The two guys are stuck about 1000 km north of Perth, now I heard of a third one in Albany, about 400 km south of Perth. They contacted German authorities and will be evacuated by their government.
