This has been all over the History channel and several other places as far back as a year or 2, especially about the Avro-Car dud. The saucer itself wasn't given much more than passing interest because of it's abandonment. This article does give a little more insight into USAF thinking at the time.

After the Arrow was cancelled many of the Avro staff ended up in "the big time" in the US with agencies like NASA. This story is not surprising... but it does give an interesting look back in time.
