WestJet Flight diverts to Saskatoon for Unknown Reason

Submitted

WestJet flight 585 from Hamilton en route to Calgary diverted to Saskatoon around the Saskatchewan-Alberta border on Sunday morning. The reason is currently unknown, however with WestJet dealing with multiple bomb threats recently, it is quite possible the unknown hoaxer struck again. (flightaware.com) More...

Calgary airport was shutdown due to severe weather on Sunday morning for about 0630 to almost noon. Many flights were diverted and/or cancelled. A severe storm developed over the airport and was extremely slow to move away.

I was supposed to operate a 0850 departure and we didn't get airborne until 1245. The airport was a mess.

UPDATE: Severe weather diverted the flight.

I'd rather fly through severe weather than be stuck in Saskatoon.

Having lived in Saskatoon my entire life (actually saw the diverted plane over my house), some days I have to agree with you. It's not the most interesting place in the world, that's for sure.
