They were good planes and were at the right place at the right time!

The 75 year anniversary of D-Day looks like it is shaping up to be quite an event. Though I'm sure we will see and hear plenty about it, I wish I could be there. God bless all who were there both living and passed.

amazing achievement it was to fly across the atlantic as this DC-3 just did. Imagine taking a cessna 172 on the same flight, with proper trepidation, and salute once again the pilots and the airplane- so very well built and surviving and prospering with 70 year old airframes....the goony bird looks great on the ground and in flight.... what a profile.......

I would have enjoyed reading this article but the paper requires either a subscription or an exception to my ad blocker, neither of which I'm willing to do.

JAMES..I have that same problem with some sites as well..i was able to access it however and its interesting..we need to preserve aviation history, and this plane certainly is part of that..it was interesting to me that those interviewed said they were very happy to find pilots who could fly that particular aircraft..

Oh, I hate it when that happens...I didn't realize it was a "subscription required" article. A google search should turn up a number of other articles covering this event, that don't require a sub.

Thanks, I'll look.

The link worked fine for me with my ad blocker and no subscription. Using iMac and Safari. Here is another link if you haven't found one already.

Thanks for the link. I suspect that the iMac and Safari got you thru.
