If passengers are that concerned with their "Carbon Footprints", they could ride a horse or bicycle. Next up, returning to the 1880s, with wood burning ("renewable energy") boilers powering steam locomotives.

But coal is "evil" and cannot be used, haven't you heard? Wood is "renewable". FYI, there is a large market shipping (via boats) pelletized US wood products to Europe that is burned as a fuel.
