Emirates has been ordered by a judge to pay a passenger $1.63m (£1.2m) after losing his bags 12 years ago.

Submitted
Orji Prince Ikem, a Nigerian businessman, was travelling to China for business in 2007 when the loss occurred. Ikem was carrying $1.63m cash in his hand luggage in order to purchase goods in China. He claims he was approached by airline staff who insisted he hand over his luggage. Although he was given two luggage tags with reference numbers, the bags were never located. A remarkable case. First of all the plaintiff took a large amount of cash on a business trip, being presumably incapable of organising international bank transactions. The chances are that the Emirates employees were local criminals - a breed of visitor to Lagos airport who are as numerous as bees in a honeypot. I doubt very much that any other court would have given him the time of day.

the passenger was world-class dummy to accede to the demand to give over his money bags. Don't know how he proved the money was in those bags, but bully for him...
