Everyone knows about the heavy use of the F-4 Phantom in Vietnam but some might not know that the F-100 Super Sabre was also used heavily as a Tactical Strike aircraft in Vietnam. The F-100s operated out of Phan Rang Air Base Vietnam. I scramble them to air strikes all over South Vietnam and Cambodia. The ground forces favored the F-100 over the F-4 for close-air-support. The longest strike I ever scrambled a set of F-100s to, was in support of a TIC (Troop in Contact) fire fight at an oil refinery and storage facility on the west coast of Cambodia. The name of the place was Kompong Som. The lead pilot on that strike was a friend of mine and he said it was a good strike; it ended the fire fight. http://tinyurl.com/zozojfl

The F-100 also operated out of Bien Hoa and Phu Cat. Two notable dicey operations by F-100 units were the early Wild Weasels and the Misty FACs, both into North Vietnam with high losses. Google either one for a good read. A single Misty FAC flight mission involved two refuelings and three trips into North Vietnam. --Misty 35

The F-100 also operated out of Bien Hoa and Phu Cat during the war. Two of the dicey operations conducted by the F-100 units were the early Wild Weasel and later the Misty FAC operation, both in North Vietnam. The Misty FAC mission was normally included two refuelings and three trips into North Vietnam. They also operated in Laos. At the time these operations were classified.
