Once they are gone, they're gone forever. No viable replacement in sight. It sounds like there will never be another plane which can actually fill this this role. Very sad.

MD ANG is no longer flying ANYTHING! Some A-10's sent to the boneyard others sent to another guard unit. Long and proud history fading into the sunset. I'm somewhat glad that my Fighter Pilot Dad and his mates are no longer around. Dad flew with these guys from the late 40's into the 70's. Don't know how they would react to the situation.
