What is the purpose of extending the exhaust pipe like that?
This airplane is used in aerial photography. The extension of the exhaust pipe allows release of hot engine exhaust gases aft of the camera, where it cannot affect the image quality of the photographs.
These exhaust pipes extend past and aft of a camera port installed through the fuselage bottom in accordance with Supplemental Type Certificate SA00515DE so that engine exhaust gases do not affect camera images.
