Lovely photo. Interesting aircraft.
Sorry for this one. Is that a fishing reel I see, just under the tail and in front of the sea rudder:-)
Christopher it's the tail wheel retracted
Interesting how the main gear swings up out of the way instead of retracting completely.
This featured in james Bond 'Man with a Golden Gun'it was made famous when the plane suddenly lost a wing float somewhere in continuity in the film so it flipped over on james Bond island beach.
Roy Hunte - I'd think it is designed this way to keep hull water-tight integrity. To have it retract into the hull would use a lot of volume and increase chance of water intrusion.
Very nostalgic. My very first flight was in a Seabee, in northern Canada, sometime around 1953 (passenger of course :-) . Still remember the breathtaking view on the steep descent towards the lake.
