Why a T-Tail on prop aircraft?
Keith Brown
@John Felton There are plenty of propeller driven aircraft with T-tails, even down to small GA types, but on military transports in particular the high-wing/t-tail design is optimal for loading/off-loading heavy equipment and airdrop operations.

John Felton, in addition to Keith Brown's comments below, that wing is complex and designed for operations on short unimproved runways. Using these features requires very high Angle-of-Attack flight. High AOA flight trails a huge ball of turbulent air, so they put the pitch control surface way up high over the turbulence where it will maintain control effectiveness much longer.
