de Havilland Dash 8-400 (N427QX)
Chester Seveck (* see COMMENTS), the Native Alaskan depicted on the tail of Alaska and Horizon fleetbirds, is smiling despite the blanket of smoke from California wildfires that is covering the airport and the Truckee Meadows as Horizon's Dash 8 N427QX makes a first-few-minutes-of-dawn departure from Reno Tahoe International.
Comments
* The true "identity" of the man whose face is depicted on the tail is actually a matter of debate in ASA and throughout the state. Some say the person being depicted is, as stated above, Chester Seveck while others insist the face is that of Alaskan Eskimo Oliver Amouak. But no matter which man it really is, there is no doubt in any Alaskan's mind that he is a Native Alaskan.
A great photo and interesting information. I'd not known the face was a 'real' person, always thinking it only a stylized face as a graphic.
Great timing and lighting on this one Gary! Well done! All 5!
