North American T-6 Texan (N3171P)
Race 43 (N3171P, a North American AT-6 named "Midnight Miss III") is captured at the end of its landing approach to the runway at Reno Stead Airport as the pilot completes his last training flight of the Stihl 2021 Pilot Racing School at RTS.
The week long PRS is mandatory for two categories of pilots: 1) those who will be piloting an entry for the first time in any of the racing categories of the National Championship Air Races and 2) those pilots who will be piloting an entry in a different racing category from the one they participated in during past NCAR events.
As can be seen here, the front seat pilot is accompanied by a certified T-6 Class pilot and instructor who teaches the trainee everything about the T-6 Class course and all mandatory procedures that must be adhered to during a T-6 Class race. Any pilot desiring to compete in the September NCAR event (aka: the Reno Air Races) must satisfactorily complete this Pylon Racing School course.
