There is one minor difference between 96-0042 as seen here and how it now appears. A green Gremlin has been painted on the nose under the cockpit window.
I do not know the reason why the Gremlin was put on the aircraft; however, there is a possibility that 96-0042 wears a Gremlin because it might have been plagued by various mechanical difficulties. If so, it reminds me of an old novel (a VERY OLD novel) that "co-starred" an aircraft that had so many mechanical problems it was named "Gremlins' Castle." Are there any old timers like me out there who know the name of the novel "Gremlins' Castle" was in? Here's a hint: The novel was made into a movie and the Duke was in the movie. In the movie, I think Andy Devine played the pilot who flew "Gremlins' Castle." (grin)
