Boeing 737-800 (N898NN)
N898NN on short final to runway 20R. It has been over a month since I caught any AAL aircraft in the old colors and I figured as more time went by the chances would be even less, but in about a two hour period there were three in the old paint that flew in to SNA. As of only a couple weeks ago, American started using 757s again for one frequency a day to Phoenix and hopefully before they are all repainted I will get a chance to catch a "57" in these colors (I was able to get one of those 757s in the US Airways last week).
Comments
Being close the coast kept the temps at SNA a reasonable 80-85 degrees last weekend, but after a short 30 minute drive inland to my house, temps rose close to 100 degrees: Summer is definitely here in California.
Still another five-star capture. Excellent camera work.
It (summer) has arrived here too, Mark. Temps in the high 90s starting today and staying there for the forseeable future. Two wildfires broke out in three days; the newest one burning now between Reno and Carson City. And PS >> Bring your sunscreen and a ballcap next week. Due to the elevation here, you get sunburn here quite a bit faster than at sea level locations and we will be outside almost all day.

Nice catch, Mark!
Greg and Gary- Thank you for the comments
Gary- Will do on the ball cap and sunscreen. I'm going to be flying at 10,000 or so feet plus being outside like you mentioned when I get there, so I definitely wont forget lol.

Pretty
Thanks Roy!
I will miss this livery. Nice shot Mark! 5*
Hopefully they keep one aircraft as a retrojet in the old livery
Thanks Dave.
I would hope so too Roy, but if any of the recent mergers are any indication: we will not be getting a retrojet livery. Northwest, Continental and Air Tran have all been completely dissolved into their new airline at this point and we don't see any special liveries for those ones. With that being said, I'm making sure that I get both this livery and the US Airways livery as much as I can before they are all gone.

Well look at it this way American has a number of retro jets flying, both A320s and 737s: AirCal, TWA, and others, so I hope, just hope, that they will keep one of each AA and US Air liveries. Would be cool.
Yes if you look N578UW an A321 is a retro as well its the US Airways Scheme with American titles like all the other retros. Also heard that the last B737-800 delivered in American bare metal will not be repainted, making it a retro in the future.
Roy, that you do mention it, American does like its retro colors and like Ryan said it looks like they will be keeping one 737 around in the AAL colors and that A321 in the AWE colors.
Ryan, thank you for the info on that 737 and also for reminding me about that A321, I have seen it before, it's just easy to forget that it is a "special paint" at this point because there are still a decent amount still flying around in the US Airways paint.
