DCA F27 parking on the grass, I beleive this was the first Freindship to operate into the Island before Ansett-ANA started operating the type a few months later, circa 1963

Wow! These are amazing shots. This is a very early 100series F27 which was equipped with slightly less powerful RR Darts than the F27 200 and 400 series aircraft that I flew much later on with Ansett. The prop blade tips on the later aircraft were squared off, whereas the series 100 had "needle" tip blades. Department of Civil Aviation also operated VH-CAT, another F27 series 100. In fact they had quite an airforce of their own, including three Fokker F28s in later years! Almost rivaling the American FAA, who operated at least one L188 Electra in their fleet...
