I am based in Sydney YSSY, around 350nm NE of East Sale. I am surprised that in the very early 1960s they actually needed three C124C Globemasters simultaneously at sleepy old YMES...

Hi Chris, they needed those numbers to bring/take in/out the support gear for the USAF Crowflight deployments. If I remember it right, in the 2.5 years that I was there there were three deployments. In late 1962 the deployments went to RAAF Laverton and at a later date returned to East Sale. The C-124Cs brought all the spares for the U-2s, B-57Bs and on one occasions for the B-50s. Usually the C-124s were spread out but on this occasion there were three on the tarmac.
