What I truly admire about your nighttime hour snaps is the fact that YOU are actually taking the pics. There are some photogs who put the camera on a tripod, set the shutter release for a timer snap, and then step back and wait for the camera to do all the work. And THEN say, "Look at the pic I took." But their hand(s) were nowhere near the camera when the pic was clicked. YOUR photos are "hands on the camera" snapshots. Congrats on this ***** capture and on ALL your night photos.

Hi Tom, I've been off line for a number of days - busy taking, sorting, fixing pics and just noticed your comment - thanks. FYI - I don't take too much notice of camera manuals, especially with this type of shot. It comes from gleaning info from others who do it, experiment myself, and finally get reasonably comfortable with what to do, then experiment some more.

This was taken on a Nikon D850 with a very old Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 lens I found second hand a few months ago - a very lucky find. Beyond that, ISO was 5000, 1/40s at f/2.8. provided the exposure is a tad over, even the high ISO doesn't cause much issue with noise.
