Spectacular capture, James. I hope it's a long lens compression giving the impression of just skimming over that terrain !! If not, that is mightily close.

The jets do avoid terrain coming in from the west (which is why he's in that bank), but in this photo the aircraft is about four miles from the mountains behind it. The 300mm lens makes for a dramatic image though!

Very nice! Well done with perspective, but my favorite part is the snowy peaks in the background, they look very good.

Landing in Juneau by Alaska Air 737 from the North in more typical windy, rainy and snowy weather was scary ever time I went there. The plane just barely clears a ridge line at the north end and must then abruptly descend to the runway. also surrounded by high mountains to the east and west, a missed approach (which is not uncommon) is even more frightening. The pilot must put the aircraft in a steep climbing right turn pinning you to your seat. Fortunately if weather is dicey, the pilot will warn about the missed approach procedure, which lessens some fear for most.
