Plane crashes into Swan River - Perth Western Australia

Australia Day fireworks cancelled in Perth after plane crashes into Swan River. No idea what he was doing there, or so low! (www.perthnow.com.au) More...

The way he was gliding down and had his floats extended, I think he was trying to land. (He may have had another problem). The excessive bank to try turn away from moored/anchored boats caused a rapid drop in speed and cause it to stall.

Looks like a Gruman Albatross or Wiggin seaplane. Typical stall base to final, these types did not handle well when low and slow. Very unfortunate.

Thinking on it, may be too small for a Albatross and I meant Widgeon seaplane. I had a friend who said it was a handfull to fly.

looking at the incident on video it looked like it stall just before banking sharp left nose diving into the river RIP to those who perished our prayers are with you and the families

Possibly, but most stall/spin accidents occur when loading the wing a slow speed which happens in a bank attitude.

weather was in the low 40s that day - not ideal and probably outside of its performance envelope.
