New Zealand plane beach take off fails

Submitted

Two pilots have attempted a dramatic take-off - from a beach. Their single engine plane made an emergency landing on Martins Bay in New Zealand after aircraft's engine failed. It did not stop the pilots attempting to get it back in the air, along with the help of some nearby holidaymakers. (www.youtube.com) More...

Hmmm. Were I in that position, I'd have gone further back on the beach. Sure it's curved, but so what when you're starting up? Also, I would have done the attempt at high tide and would have also had some locals drive on the sand a few times to confirm it was drivable. I'd contemplate skids, too. Driving through the water is like catching the cable with a hook on an aircraft carrier.
