Pilot union rejects American Airlines offer, seeks more pay

Submitted

The Allied Pilots Association said Wednesday that its board voted 15-5 to reject an offer by American that included raises of 19% in three steps over two years. The decision by the union at American followed overwhelming rejection by United Airlines pilots of an offer including pay raises totaling 14.5% over 18 months, and a strike-authorization vote by Delta Air Lines pilots. Both groups are represented by the Air Line Pilots Association. (www.sfgate.com) More...

It was rejected more for quality of life/work rules than pay, although the lowest pay in the industry, including regionals, doesn't help. That proposal was an insult to the pilots and it's no surprise it didn't even make it to a vote of the pilot group.

Now it is time for the APA members to get rid of the five management hopeful pilots that voted for the offer. It should have been a board vote of 20-0 to reject.

Fine time to demand pay raises with a recession looming. I suppose it doesn’t matter since the federal government is always there the bail them out.

Well the pilots at AA have been in contract negotiations for four years. So the pilot have been without any raise for 4 yrs and counting. Then add all of this inflation and you wonder why their is a pilot shortage. The quality of the work day schedules is what really needs improvement. And that is why it failed!

THE PILOTS UNION FOR AMERICAN AIRLINES HAS ALWAYS MANAGED TO NEGOTIATE WITH THE MANAGMENT OF AA FOR WHAT THEY WANTED THROUGHOUT THE YEARS..AA HAS NEVER (EVEN THE OLD AIRLINE)WANTED THE PILOTS TO GO ON STRIKE,EVEN FOR A BRIEF PERIOD OF TIME DUE TO THE DISRUPTION OF SERVICE..THEY HAVE A BIGGER BARGAINING CHIP THESE DAYS BECAUSE OF PILOT SHORTAGES AND PASSENGER LOADS GOING UP..IM SURE AN AGREEMENT WILL BE ON THE TABLE FAIRLY SOON FOR THAT REASON..
