the nice after effect about being a pilot for 50 years so far, is I know how to make use of a map, and within my city i have somewhere about,a map book of the city streets. It makes for more driver involved participation, not simply listening to some bored gps lady telling me what to do when. Makes me less helpless.

suppose you are skydiving and you discern some problem- bag lock, partial opening ( it gets even louder),or any other condition that you have maybe less than a minute to resolve. Training says how to mitigate- and you do it NOW. Why is this in any way different? People flying from J-berg must be prevented today from coming here, for they may be bringing more diverse and dangerous covid offerings to us all. And none of them can come until they get the situation solved.

piston engines will give you a clue: dead foot, dead engine. On twin business jets, the engine performance guages are arranged in pairs , requiring a concerned pilot to look a time or two so to discern which engine is functioning- the one with less output numbers is the one that failed. Depending on the model, bells and whistles and flashing lights occur upon loss of engine power, so look carefully and just don't flip a coin. It is important to be very sure. Take your time- the life you save will be your own, and the aircraft you will avoid crashing is the very one you are strapped in.

this situation ought to have been in the training sylabus and practiced in simulator training. Both pilots ought to have been aware of performance indications and been coginzant enough to respond. Engine shutdown and single engine flight is rudimentary skill level work. This is not a blame-it-on Boeing accident.. Looks like pilot awareness flaws were exposed. I will, as we all should, wait for the facts to filter in. As i understand it at this stage, autothrottle excesses can be overcome through a simple shut down as precaution, as a first step. Other problems require further solutions on the spot.

a hazy aspiration, not specifically defined, with remedies not explained, ; feel good foolishness. Directness may violate Delta's idea of civility, with Delta being both judge and jury and court of appeals also. Corporate silly-speak ....

analyzing the gifts that united gave to the samaratans ought not to take very long. A more useful reward would be to follow up on the medical conditions of each man and then to offer something of substance then. A passenger got on a United flight that medical screening did not detect, then had adverse, then a fatal reaction. United believes no good deed goes unpunished, but its not our fault. The best safe remedy is not to fly , period. for we can not depend on the good will or the competency of :United Air Lines.

if he did no damage to property, then he cannot be a danger to the community. Bathing and toilet use may have been problematic. The use of the stolen/misplaced airport id badge is criminal. Self preservation,if he authentically believed the story he told, is barely criminal. He pointed out security lapses, and thank him for that, not imprison him to make the lawyers feel justified and airport administrators less culpable. He has documented evidence of covid infestation in illinois jails, so lets not send him there, rather, ship him home , to california , where covid runs rampent. Looks like he can't win either way.

in fact i do know how to travel cheaper than allegient. I drive one of my Prius cars to Boston twice a year, when I haul several hundred pounds of equipment that would not be safely treated by any airline. Do the Math: 50 MPG, 1,500 miles equals 30 gallons petrol at $2.50/gallon Tadah: $75 for the one-way trip, $150 for the round trip. 800 miles runs $40 bucks. The one way trip to Boston takes as long as the proposed Quantas flights to London from Sydney. just saying.....

because they have few frequencies, sometimes only one or two per week, you be stranded if there is a mechanical cancellation. Their route system does not lend itself to shuffling delayed passengers on other flights, and their load factors ( bargain hunting travelers) don't make that so easy either. I do not know good reasons to fly this fascimile airline.
