Which nuke plants in the US have been decommissioned in the last 5-10 years? In GA, there’s two more coming online. Coal plants are being decommissioned, but natural gas are still viable. Solar and wind are still minor factors, but are slowly better financially positioned as oil and natural gas prices surge.
JohnTrolinger

I should have said "build the nuke plants" and I did not mean to imply that the US was shuttering viable nuclear power plants but to answer your question this is a list of nuclear plants that have been shut down.

San Onofre. Trojan. Rancho Seco. Crystal River 3. Connecticut Yankee. Vermont Yankee.

Most of the large airlines, at the more savvy ones, heavily invest in a series of fuel futures. Basically, each quarter in the future, they pre-price a certain amoutn of fuel at a fixed prices. It's a bet. If prices go up, you win. If prices go down, you lose. But you get predictable costs, which is important to business stability and schedule planning.

In the article, you see "Allegiant has said they would cut their Q2 schedules up to 10% as a result, Alaska Airlines has said they expected their capacity to be down 3-5% in the first half of the year ...". I would guess that they are under-invested in fuel futures for next couple of quarters.

And then "The big three, American, Delta and United Airlines have all said that they wouldn’t cut any flights or raise ticket prices." This is a good sign that they've done their homework and prepared with enough futures.
NigelGentry
Nigel Gentry 2
The big oil companies always quote oil future prices as a reason why fuel prices don't come down quickly when oil prices go down. But they're always very quick to raise prices when the wholesale oil prices go up, regardless of any futures!

Don't they buy fuel forward on the commodities marker or do they just pull up to the truck when they needed it? Sounds like a bunch of BS to me. They just aren't getting the passenger and cargo loads pre-pandemic.

The one saving grace is that he started so late in life. Just think how F'd up the country would be if he started his political grifting earlier.

Yes, there's issues with government - he did strike a nerve with people about those issues. But drooling over autocrats shows where his mind is and how he wants to run things.

Till the kool aid wears off his minions, I will vote against anyone that has TFGs endorsement in the primary. And vote against anyone that is pro TFG / evasive to anything TFG related to try to woo TFG kool aid drinkers.

Unfortunately, that will likely mean I vote Dem. It's the lesser of 2 evils.

It may be month or years from now, but the kool aid drinkers will realize they were in a cult.

Biden IS an example of flaws in government - he's been sucking from the gov't teat for a lifetime.

But Whatever Biden has / will do, it won't involve trashing the Constitution. So that works for me... and any sane person.

But, regardless, High Energy Prices, as well as EVERYTHING ELSE, has ZERO to do with the Russia/The Ukraine conflict. And it just AMAZES ME how SO-CALLED 'adults' have ZERO CLUE about 'How Things Work'!

HIGH PRICES....ACROSS THE BOARD....are because......

1) INFLATION: Keep on 'printing' TRILLIONS of 'dollars', and the VALUE of our (FIAT) Currency goes DOWN. Which means, your dollar buys considerably LESS (ie PRICES SKYROCKET!).

2) SHUT DOWN this countries ENERGY PRODUCTION......PRICES SKYROCKET. ("supply & Demand')

3) SHUT DOWN our Country/States.....it creates supply/chain issues.....which creates a 'SUPPLY & DEMAND' issue.....which DRIVES PRICES HIGHER.

POTUS Trump 'printed' $$ towards the last half of his last year in Office. But the MAJORITY of the 'PRINTING TRILLIONS' falls on the DemonRats; as well as #2 & #3.....ALL on the DemonRats!

Oh!! And a Bonus for the kids out there......ALL of this ^ ^ ^ is being DONE ON PURPOSE! (by the Globalists and their minions, the DemonRats & RINOS)

The stupidity on this site gets worse weekly.

Presidents have virtually zero effect on gas and fuel pricing. It’s a global cabal who make the markets and capitalistic in most countries, except the Middle East and Venezuela.. We have the capacity in the US to extract more petroleum but the oil companies look for the quicker way by buying imported oil and lowering their cost of business by not investing in drilling rigs and associated infrastructure. Then you have refinery capacity. Refineries go off-line all the time for maintenance or damage from hurricanes or earthquakes.

Remember, major oil companies are public companies and report to their boards and shareholders. Do they deserve to make a profit? Yes. Are we producing more domestic oil than under Trump? Yep. In early 2020 under Trump, was oil cheaper? Yep, because of less demand. Did prices start to rise towards the end of his term? Yes, because demand rose.

I get it. You hate Biden. I despise Trump as a grifter and criminal, but I don’t blame either for fuel costs. Time to get your facts straight.

I stand corrected. Drilling for oil, transporting crude and then refining it fits into total output. Looking at refinery production, it’s virtually flat for 20 years. Why’s that? The oil we can’t process goes where?
https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/pet_pnp_cap1_dcu_nus_a.htm

https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/oil-and-petroleum-products/imports-and-exports.php

And why are we exporting refined petroleum products to other countries? Transporting gas from Gulf Coast refineries to Northeast distributors costs too much so it goes to Mexico.
https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/oil-and-petroleum-products/imports-and-exports.php

Companies do everything to make maximum profit. The guy that makes the smallest profit is the corner gas station (if they still exist) because he doesn’t have the volume of chain stores or sells enough Slurppies to keep the doors open. Gas is pretty much a low profit venture for gas stations, just like groceries at a grocery store. That’s why when the cost of crude goes up, there’s an immediate increase at the pump. Crude has gone down the past week, have prices gone down significantly? This is the profit-taking. Helps the small guy, but your chain convenience stores grab a lot more profit.

You can go back to Nixon and trend out peaks and valleys, compare it to crude oil costs (remember gas rationing in the 70’s?) natural disasters, wars, embargoes, and the cost of gas (sans taxes) has little effect from presidents, as much as we want to believe in partisan politics. The alternative is state-run petroleum industry and no one wants that.

Oil companies, like casinos, never go bankrupt. Grease enough palms via lobbyists, it’s a protected industry. I take that back about casinos, a couple have gone under in Atlantic City.

Hey, sunshine. The first piece of paper Biden signed was an executive order cancelling the Keystone XL project. Biden also cancelled oil exploration on federal lands KNOWN to be potentially high producing areas. He then attempted to deceive the public by granting new leases on lands that have not to date have not been explored for viability.
Lastly, the administration joined in efforts to cancel the replacement for the Line 5 pipeline which crosses the Straits of Mackinac as well as another pipeline currently under construction which crosses through Northern Minnesota into Wisconsin. These two infrastructures are vital supply links which feed petroleum to All of Michigan as well as most of Ontario, Ohio and Indiana.
These actions sent oil and gasoline futures markets into their current upward move.
As of one year ago, regular gas has risen by over $2 per gallon. Essentially double the price.
Thats on the Biden administration and ALL who voted democrat in the 2020 elections.
YOU are at fault.
overpar56
Steve Stein 2
Keystone XL already exists. What was canceled was phase 4. There’s no guarantee this oil would used in the US. It also requires more refining as it’s not the light, sweet crude that’s preferred by refineries. It has more impurities (higher sulfur content, etc) so that increases refining costs, and maybe not gas worthy.

JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — President Donald Trump expanded a ban on new offshore drilling Tuesday, an election-year reversal likely to appeal to voters in Florida and other coastal states. Two years ago, Trump had taken steps to vastly expand offshore drilling from coast to coast.

he oil industry’s fortunes have been withering on President Donald Trump’s watch, with dozens of oil companies falling into bankruptcy as weak crude prices take a toll on the sector he contends would be abolished if he’s not reelected.

Though some of those industry woes were emerging last year as companies grappled with a glut of oil, people in the business say they were made worse by the president’s trade wars and mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic. So far least 40 U.S. oil companies have sought bankruptcy protection in 2020 while dozens of others have slashed spending and cut tens of thousands of jobs.

Trump frustrated the industry last month by declaring vast swaths of shoreline off Florida and other states off-limits to drilling, an election-year reversal of his past promises to expand offshore production. And even one nominal bright spot for the industry — the administration’s aggressive rollback of regulations — has been so rushed and beset by legal challenges that Democrats may have little trouble reinstating the rules if they reclaim power.

“Three and a half years of rollbacks facing serious litigation ensures a lot of things are ‘to-be-decided,’” said Wayne D’Angelo, an energy lawyer and partner at legal firm Kelley Drye who has represented oil and gas companies and trade associations on federal environmental issues.

More fundamentally, oil and gas executives told POLITICO, the president doesn’t really understand their business — and his famously chaotic White House has set up a system where only a relative handful of favorite energy executives have access to people who can shape policy.

“I don’t think it’s one of these things where we as an industry get in a room and say, ‘Man that was a good four years,’” said one industry executive who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to give their opinion to the media. “

No. This is a consequence of shareholder greed in oil companies.

"Airlines in the U.S. are facing fuel costs that haven’t been seen since 2008" PERIOD. There is no need to recite the parroted narrative here. We all know who is responsible for the fuel costs...and it isn't the war.

User567489 just lost ever bit of credibility!

The greedy oil companies are responsible. They posted record profits last year by ripping off us consumers.

Can we please skip the politics? I don’t care what Biden or Trump did or didn’t do. The president has very little control over corporate price manipulation and kissing the Street’s ass.

Numbers don’t lie. Biden takes office and gas and fuel oil goes up 40% in a year. That was all prior to the war. Read and get educated, rather than use emotions

Name a law that was passed last year that caused the oil companies to raise prices. Now look at their record profits for 2021.

That is most laughable line in this whole thread. You are so clueless about the true history of ANYTHING you bring up. You should be working for Snopes.

Why are Americans tolerating government restrictions (i.e. takeover) of a privately-owned natural resource? Would Americans be silent if the government said you couldn't drill a water well on your own property? When you consider the volume of toxic gases that have spewed out of volcanoes over the centuries, that ostensibly contain subsurface fossil fuels mixed in with the melted magma, how can we believe the atmosphere can't handle combustion engines? Just because a lie is published in a book or obtusely repeated endlessly, doesn't convert it into truth.

Hey John Nooge head, you are hilarious. Typical liberal that never follows or embraces what comes out of their mouths. BTW, if there was a vaccine for stupid you should be first in line!! Keep voting for these morons and you get what you deserve. Oh wait, never mind its always going to be Trumps fault or someone else to blame for anything bad, never looking in the mirror and taking accountability. hahahahahahaahahahaha| Idiot, have you ever considered a brain transplant? Wait, don't you have to have a brain first? hahahahahahahahahahahaha
