UAL always had the ORD-LGA market tied up in knots. But the COA-EAL merger was more than they could handle. Yes, they did pick up big hubs (MIA, IAH, LAX) that they didn't have control over, but the pax revolted to being treated as third hand partners. All my friends that flew them, stopped and went to SWA instead. Hiring from AAL does not make them better.
