Airbus Signals Intention to Build a Widebody Freighter Aircraft
Airbus CEO Gauillaume Faury remains tight-lipped about whether the company has started work on the development of a freighter version of the A350, though he did confirm Thursday that the European airframer wants to end Boeing’s dominance of the all-cargo aircraft market, a segment in which he admitted Airbus “traditionally has been weak”—particularly with its widebodies. monopolies melt in the face of price and/or performance competition. Build it better or cheaper and you will sell a few.
HMM,. MAYBE THEY COULD DO THE A380 AS THE FREIGHTER! LIKE THEY WERE GOING TO ORIGINALLY!
The A380F concept has some serious obstacles to overcome. A key issue, apparently, is that the decks need reinforcement. Once you factor in the extra mass, the cost efficiency of the A380F as a freighter is not very good. Basically, it grosses out well before it cubes out. The A380 was a bet on passenger growth between hubs.
Actually that makes a lot of sense. I still think that they might be able to do people on the top and cargo on the bottom deck. Or they might be able to do one deck and carry taller cargo. Take that 747
where has anyone read with clarity any notion of airbus building A380's into freighters? Airbus might have to finesse a combi version: passengers up top and bulky , not heavy freight on the main deck. What i have read is more in the sense of a tease, not a hard certain proposal.
Overdue. But it will be hard to break into a monopoly
